6 nights in Italy

We are going to Italy in February and staying 6 nights. Should we do 3 nights rome, 2 nights Florence and 1 night Venice? We are flying into Rome and out of Venice.

I'd spilt it into 3 Rome and 3 Venice. One night in Venise makes it hotel stop, adn the city is worth much more time. It is so unique. UNless the art in Florence is a must for you (you will see more art than you can imagine in Rome and Venice anyway), skip it. 6 nights, 2 cities, you'll be back!

I agree with Laurel. 3 nights in Rome and 3 in Venice. This still doesn't give you enough time to explore the cities much but at least it cuts out one change of hotel. As it is, you'll lose most of a day traveling between cities so you'll really only have about 2.5 days in each. Donna

IMHO, you do not have enough days to accomplish this unless you just want to say you were there. First of all, you may be jet lagged when you arrive and that reduces one day for sightseeing. You have travel time between cities, which take time to leave one city, find a your next hotel in a strange city, and then begin your exploration. If your flight arrangements are already made then I would only do Roma and Venice. If you haven't purchased your tickets I would do roundtrip Roma only. You could do a day trip from Roma to Florence or Roma to Orvieto. Another option would be to fly into Venice and home from Florence because Venice to Florence is only a few hours away. If you left Venice in the evening for Florence you could maximize your daytime experience in that city. Over the years of traveling in Europe, and especially Italy, I've become a firm believer in less is more. Planning a marathon at a dead run is not my idea of experiencing a new culture. One of the attractions to Italy is their laid back lifestyle. Buon viaggio,
