Any suggestions for finding a home to rent for 6-8 months in Northern Italy? VBRO seems kind of expensive.
Assuming you have resolved the issue of a long stay, I.e., are an EU citizen or have a relevant visa under the Schengen Agreement, try www.sabbaticalhomes.com.
Also Google “Appartamenti affitti ________”, inserting the name of a city, which will give you results in Italian but perhaps useful and not normally vacation rentals. Non-vacation rental leases in Italy are usually long term (years) and seldom furnished so set your expectations to confusing.
Two suggestions for VRBO or AirBnB: If you find a place you like, plug in your dates and see if the rate goes down for a long-term stay. Or contact the host and negotiate a better rate and payment terms (e.g., paying in advance should lower the rate further but carries a high risk to you if your deal is outside the AirBnB rubric).
Good advice from G3rry. I have often negotiated discounts through VRBO when staying longer than 5 nights and also in off season.
