Hi, I will arrive in Rome on Oct 26. I want to visit Tuscany, Florence, Venice and CT and fly out of Milan on Nov 7. I would like to rent a car and drive though Tuscany. How would you all suggest I plan the trip? Do I go from Rome to Tuscany, Florence or Venice?? You get the idea. Also, I don't plan on spending time in Milan; maybe arrive there Friday the 6th in the afternoon and fly out next morning. Thanks for your help.
Unless you really have your heart set on driving I would take the train. Rome to Florence bus to CT and train to Venice then Milan
Renting a car in Tuscany for a few days is a great idea. It's difficult to get to some of the smaller towns using public transportation. You might pick up a car in Orvieto and drop off in Siena, Florence, Pisa or Bologna. Whichever has the best rates and is less congested traffic-wise. As you've probably already read, a GPS is a great help driving in Tuscany. Other than Tuscany, trains are a great way to go.
