drinking water

In many (most?) cities and towns in Italy there are safe, free water spigots to fill up your own water bottle rather than wasting euros and plastic. In Rome in particular water is especially cold and fresh. If you are without a bottle at least in Rome most spigots have a small hole so it acts like a drinking fountain if you block off the main spigot. There is even a spigot in the middle of the Ponte Vecchio in Florence.

So I guess Phillip's post is legit after all. And I for one agree-the water in Rome is fabulous!

I think there are only two fountains where you can't drink the water. They both have a sign saying the water is not palatable.
