I have read that your passport can not expire 6 months upon traveling. I am traveling in September 2010 and my passport expires in March of 2011 exactly 6 months. Do I need a new passport ?

Some countries that require tourist visas - Russia, for example - will not issue one if your passport is within 6 months of expiration. And they start counting from the day you LEAVE the country. So I think the answer to your question is that it depends on where you're going and how long you intend to stay there.
