A friend wants to take his wife and three kids anywhere in Italy and to stay in a hotel (or at least a nice B&B). A small town would be fine but some in his family require more amenities than simply renting an apartment or house would provide. He says that from the research he's done, it seems that he can find a hotel for five with two double beds and a rollaway much more easily in Hawaii than in Italy. Can this be?
We stayed in a B&B in Positano that actually slept 5 plus room for crib but I am sure this is very unusual for anyplace. Why not an apartment, that way everyone would have some space. We rented one in Edinburgh with two full baths, slept five and had game room downstairs, he should look into as I personally think a room for five is crowding it too much. Lucky for us in Positano, we also had a balcony and never any rain so we weren't all stuck in one room.
There probably is a small element of truth to his statement in that all hotels rooms in Hawaii will be much bigger and therefore can accommodate more people easier than most rooms in Europe. However, people with families do travel in Europe and the key is finding family rooms. Not all hotels or B&B will have them so family rooms are available.
Hi Rick! How old are the kids? If they are teens, I would try to get them a separate room sometimes. They will survive this trip much better if you do! 5 people in one room is very very difficult to find in Italy. As a previous poster mentioned, you need a family room. This family is in for many many emails to Italy hotels. There are some hotels that have separate apartments in the same block as their hotels. That would work for your family, I think. You might check with the Italian cities' tourism bureaus to find a family room or hotels with apartments. I doubt if there will be any available at this late date for summer 2011. Good luck to them! Bobbie
It is harder to find but not impossible. Depends on where you're looking to go. Generally it'll be easier finding bigger rooms in the more touristy places. I was looking for rooms in Venice the other day and saw 8 - 10 places with 5-8 person rooms. Looked for places in Balzano and couldn't find even a quad.
What are the amenities they need and wouldn't get outside a hotel??? We stayed in a very nice B&B in Torca (20 min outside Sorrento) with a wonderful view of the Bay of Salerno as a family of 4. We rented their largest appartment with a queen sized bed and a non-advertised room next door with 2 single beds for 100 Euro all together and the best breakfast we ever had in Italy. The owners speak fluent English and gave us spot on advice to explore the area. The appartment would be big enough for an added roll-away bed, though you would have to enquire about it: www.villamonplaisir.it
So your friend doesn't know WHERE in Italy he wants to visit...his main concern is a hotel room that sleeps 5? Wouldn't it be easier to narrow down WHERE first and then try to find a hotel room? I know they exist in Rome and in Venice...and probably many other places.
Family rooms are avail. in alot of hotels. Ther are even some hostels that accomodate familys in private rooms.
