5 days in Venice

We will be in Venice 2 weeks from now and would love some ideas on what to do especially if the weather remains this cold. Will be traveling with 2 kids ages 10 and 8. Thank you!

If you haven't done so, buy a Venice or Italy guidebook. Since we do not know you or your childrens interests, reviewing things to do yourself should give you a good idea. That being said, the secret tour of the Doge's Palace may be interesting to the children because parts of it could be considered a little "scary". A trip to Murano to see glass making? You should find many things to do. Have fun!

And be sure to try the cioccolato caldo (hot chocolate) that you can get in any cafe bar.

A day trip to Burano can be fun. Nice boat ride and a cute little town for some wandering around as well as lunch and shopping. It's a very colorful town and quite charming.

A trip to Torcello might be a nice half-day trip, bundle up if it's cold on the water, it's a longer ride than to Murano or Burano.

Second Burano. Also try San Giorgio Maggiori across the canal from San Marco. Take the elevator up the tower for great views - the kids would like the elevator - it only holds 6 (or is it 4?). Also, they might like the Rialto Fish Market - the variety of fish is pretty amazing and fun to see. We were there in mid March last year and the weather was ok but this seems to be a special winter. You'll have fun whatever the weather!

Second the vote for San Giorgio Maggiore. Great views! Let your kids hang out in a Campo where Italian kids are playing. There is also a park with a playground in Santa Elena. There's a natural history museum in San Polo that has Venice's (Italy's) only dinosaur.
