Hey All,
My wife and I will be staying at a agriturismo in Moteriggioni just north of Siena for 5 nights. We will have a car and I was looking for some advice on places we can visit or things to do during these 5 days. We will be in the area in early May. So far we are planning to visit Siena, Pienza, San Gimignano. We have a Brunello wine tour booked with Donatella with "Wine Tour in Tuscany". I was hoping maybe doing a easy bike ride somewhere scenic, or checking out some hot springs, or sneak in a round of golf. Any other interesting towns to visit??
Monteriggioni is very attractive and very small. But it will be a peaceful place to return each evening. We loved Volterra and Rick Steves has an excellent self-guided tour in his guidebook. We like Volterra much more than San Gimignano, BTW.
Since you are going to Pienza and also have a Brunello tour, perhaps you can swing through Montalcino as well, and the Abbey of Sant’Antimo. (Check hours before going as it closes from noon to 15;00 I believe.) The abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore is also special and has similarly restrictive hours.
In the Chianti region, Panzano, Castellina, Radda in Chianti.
With Poenza add Montalcino, Montepulciano.
Besides San Gimignano, on the day you go there, you could consider Certaldo as well, maybe even Barberino. Colle Val D’Elsa is another nice town very close to Monteriggioni. You have to pass by it when you go to S.G or to Volterra.
Monteriggioni is actually an excellent choice logistically, because it’s near the freeway Siena-Florence.you are actually within 90 min drive from Cortona, Assisi, Lucignano, and many more places thanks to the proximity to the freeway.
