5 days in Tuscany

Hi Guys,
After a little advice. My partner and I are going to be in Tuscany for 5 days in early June. We have already confirmed 2 nights accommodation at Agriturismo Marciano and was wondering should we extend it and stay in the 1 place for the entire 4 nights or should we find another location for a further 2 nights? We will have a car so getting around shouldnt be a problem. our next destination will be Lake Como so I though maybe we should head north for the next 2 nights???
Any advice or suggestions for the extra 2 nights would be fantastic!
Thanks in advance!

Having stayed there before, I would spend all 4 nights there. Will you have a car? What towns do you hope to see?

You say you have 5 days in Tuscany, yet you also say you have 4 nights. If you have 4 nights that actually gives you 3 full days and 2 partial days. That's not the same thing as 5 days.

Tough call. I'm a fan of moving around. I would stay in a different town for the 2 nights

Kim, I promise you that once you have stayed there, you will wish you had more time. And do eat the optional dinners they serve. We were able to have dinner 2 out of our 4 nights, and it was the best food we had during our 3 weeks in Italy. After we left Marciano we spent 2 nights in Florence. If I had known when I made our plans what I discovered after staying there, I would have spent those 2 nights at Marciano and day tripped I to Florence. My husband felt the same way.

I agree with Andrea.

Are you going to return the rental car in at Florence and take the fast train thru Milan to Lake Como? You're talking about 250 miles, and Italian unleaded gasoline is pushing $9.50 per U.S. gallon.

I haven't stayed at that particular agriturismo, but it is constantly lauded on this site. For that reason, if you can get the extra nights, I advise staying there. You can do day trips to Volterra (#1, imo), Pienza, Montepulciano, Montalcino, Perugia, Assisi, and Arezzo. All are very worthwhile visiting. If you exhaust that list, there are a dozen other appealing towns nearby. The thought of relaxing over a delicious dinner, in an attractive venue, after a strenuous day of sight-seeing, with no need for further driving, seems irresistibly attractive.

I will be in Florence Tuscany area 2nd week of May. We were wanting to avoid renting car. Is this agriturismo Marciano reachable by train/bus from Florence? Thank you.

Haven't stayed there myself but looked into it. I know you can take the bus (or train probably better in this situation) from Florence to Siena- then a cab to the Agriturismo- I believe it's about a 15 min cab ride.

Thanks for the replies guys!
I think we have decided to stay the 4 nights, I just get way to excited and want to wedge in way too much without thought of relaxing a little :P
We are picking our car up in florence heading out to the agriturismo then up to the lakes and dropping the car off in verona. We may not make it up as far as Como and might head straight to Lake Garda, a lot of Kms I know!

norac111 - I think Marciano is 2-3 K outside of a Siena. We had a car. Eileen (a regular poster here) did not. They walked into town, or took a taxi, or would catch a ride from another guest. This was not their first time in Tuscany and their goal was not to see as many hilltowns as possible. Personally, as much as I loved staying there, without a car I would stay in town.
