5 days in the italian lake district

Hi,

I am looking to spend 5 days between milan and the dolomites in the lake district. What are the best lakes? We like scenery biking and hiking. I was thinking 3 nights in lake como and 2 somewhere else.

Thanks

The two places look quite close to each other on Google Maps. However, the actual drive between the two takes quite a long time because of the terrain.

Try to budget two more nights if you want to include the Dolomites. I just went there in Sept and can help you with planning.

I enjoyed Lake Como for visiting the villages surrounding the lake. But by far I enjoyed the vistas of Lake Lugano and either hiking or taking the gondola up Mt San Salvatore and hiking down.

Believe you can order the 4th edition of the RS Milan and Lake District book on line.

If you want to combine Dolomites and lakes in a 5-day timeframe, you should aim for Lake Garda. The other lakes further west (including lake Como) are too far, in my opinion.

I meant 5 days in the lakes district before another week in the Dolomites . Not 5 days for both . Thanks

Ok, then perhaps Lake Como (Varenna is a good balance between charm and convenience), and lake Garda (e.g., Saló or Riva del Garda) to get you closer to the Dolomites.
Lake Iseo also gets a few mentions, but I do not know too much about that one.
