5 days in the dolomites (14-18 June)

Hi all! My family (husband, 8 month old baby, me) will be driving from Malcescine (Garda) to the Dolomites on 14 June and will have 5 days there, then driving to Venice to catch a flight on the 19th.

Our baby travels well and we would love to eat well and do a bunch of day hikes! (Maybe one overnighter if it's not too late to book a rifugio).

Few questions:
- should we get a car or campervan?
- If a car, where to stay ie Tre cime de lavadero, ortisei, val gardena? Should we base in one location or move halfway through the week?
- what are your favourite hikes and via ferratas? (I can do some alone while my husband stays with bub)

Thanks!!

How young is your baby? Their organs are not developed enough to handle high altitudes. How will you change him/her while on the hike like the Tre Cime loop trail (my fav hike)?

You need two bases: one in Val Gardena and another near Toblach. Ortisei is in VG. I suggest you book three nights in Ortisei and two nights in Toblach.

The most scenic and fun hikes start in Ortisei in VG.

June is coming up in a few days. You need to book hotels ASAP! Don't rent a camper as driving on windy mountain roads is not easy.

I agree with Barkinpark. Definitely rent a car and plan on two bases. A great family hike to consider near Toblach is in the valley of Val Fiscalina. You can find details here: https://throneandvine.com/val-fiscalina-fischleintal/. Another nice family hike is around Lago di Dobbiaco, which is also near Toblach. Have a great trip!

Thank you both so much. I've read that the roads up north are extra wide and campervanning is very common there - is your concern that we may not be comfortable with windy mountain roads?

For example, the road from Bolzano to VG is narrow and windy, located along the cliff.
