5 days in Cinque Terre

We're trying to find place to stay for 5 days in mid May. We just want to relax and be "in town". We think we prefer Vernazza or Manarola. But that's just from looking at images. Any advice on a particular town and apartment or Hotel?

Have you checked out Ricks book for suggestions? I stayed in Vernazza in September and loved it. I stayed at La Marina rooms from Ricks book. Cristian the owner was friendly and helpful during our stay. You want to book early as places fill up fast. You may not get the first choice on your list.

I personally prefer Monterosso because it's the largest and flattest of the 5 towns and has the most amenities. We stayed in Monterosso this past September as well as in '09 and loved it. It's just as quaint as the other towns and fun to walk around. We stayed at Hotel Pasquale this past September and I can definitely recommend it. Every room has an incredible view over the ocean and the staff are extremely service oriented and friendly. The hotel and rooms are very clean and comfortable and we would stay there again in a heartbeat. We love Vernazza but it's a little small for my taste in terms of staying there. The nice thing is that whichever town you choose to stay in, you can easily catch a train and be in any of the other towns in just a few minutes. Have a great trip.

frank_park,

I also prefer to stay in Monterosso for the reasons that Sheron mentioned. As it's the largest of the five towns, it has the greatest number of accommodations, which will increase your chances of getting a booking in mid May. You might find it helpful to have a look at THIS LIST which shows most of the lodgings in Monterosso. There's a SIMILAR LIST for Vernazza. You could also check the Italy 2014 Guidebook for more information.

I'd highly recommend getting a reservation as soon as possible, especially for mid May! However, keep in mind that many of the hotels in all the C.T. towns will be closed for the season now, so it could take a while to get a reply.

Good luck and happy travels!
