5 days between Dolomites and Zermatt

Hello! I am Natalia. We are a family of 4 (with 10 years old twins) and We are going to spend 20 days in Europe in June. We are having a difficult time choosing a destination in between our main trips (Dolomites and Zermatt). We already went to those 2 places last year but didn’t plan enough time (so many trails and beautiful scener) and we are going back.

We arrive from COLOMBIA to Barcelona and will spend 2 days there.

Then we are planning to go to Zermatt for 4 days, and then Dolomites. But, we have 5 days to travel en between Zermatt and Dolomites and we are struggling to make he most convenient choice. (traveling to and from those 2 regions takes time). We are looking for an accesible destination, as we don’t want to take too many trains or flights. Last year we also went to amalfi coast, Paris and Madrid. And in previous trips we visited Berlin, Vienna, London, Lucern, Interlaken, and Titlis mountain... and suggestions? We are torn between bavarian region and Austria, or lake Como!
Thanks a lot for your help!

I'd go with Lake Como. You could take the Glacier Express train from Zermatt to St Moritz (or nearby town like Pontresina) for 1 or 2 nights. Then take the Bernina Express (or regular train that does not require seat reservations) to Tirano, then walk across the piazza to the Trenord station and take the train to Varenna on Lake Como. You could stay there or take the short ferry ride to Bellagio for 2 or 3 nights. Then back to Varenna and take the train to Milano Centrale, change to a train to Verona, then change to a train to Bolzano, then bus to Oritsei for your stay in the Dolomites.

Thanks a lot Sam for your help and sorry I took this long to answer you. Lake Como sounds pretty good!
