5 day Trip to Italy (stop Over)

Hi All

We are planning a 4 to 5 day stop over in italy before we head on home. This is our 1st visit to Italy and we r open for any suggestions of what city or cities to visit. I know the trip duration is a short short time but i figure we can enjoy some sights in. The trip is planned tentatively at End of April . We will also be traveling with a 11 month old infant.
We can either fly to Milan or Rome so open for suggestions. On a personal note we enjoy history, beautiful scenary . Museums can be a miss if needed.

Thank you for your help
Sam

At that time of year I'd tend to favor Rome. Possible side-trips include the lovely Orvieto (by train) or something like the Villa d'Este (I think that's by bus).

If tootling around small towns in the Tuscan/Umbrian countryside sounds more like it, Rome would still be best. You could then hop on a train to Florence (no more than about 1-1/2 hours) and rent a car for the duration--assuming you would not stay in Florence itself because of traffic and parking issues. Or stay in Florence without a car and take side-trips to Lucca, Siena, etc.
