5-Day Road Trip from Rome - Where to go!

I'm planning a 5-day road trip leaving and returning from Rome in the beginning of June. I am open to all suggestions but have already been to the Amalfi Coast so was hoping to do something different (I'm also thinking the Amalfi Coast would be crowded and expensive in June). I speak Italian so the language barrier is not an issue and would love an authentic experience rather than more touristy locations. I'm considering the Gargano peninsula but worry it may be too far to go for 5 days. Thoughts?

Factors that are important to me:

-Scenic drive
-picturesque Italian towns
-amazing food and wine, as always in Italy
-cost effective
-Don't want to do Tuscany or Venice as I have been many times

I will be traveling with a friend who has never been to Italy before (although she is letting me take the reigns for this one and doesn't mind not hitting the typical tourist spots) so if you think the Amalfi coast is far and away the best road trip to do I am happy to do again but figured there must be other great road trips. I want to impress her with all the beauty and culture that is Italy!

The towns in Lazio are very interesting: Castel Gandolfo, Narni, Rieti, Bolsena, Frascati, Tivoli.

Or some places in Le Marche: Ascoli Piceno, Macerata, Urbino.

I never get tired of the Amalfi Coast, and further south you could also visit Paestum and go inland to Matera.

Maratea on the coast sounth of Paestum is very beautiful. If you do go to Basilicata (Matera) and Puglia it is about a 6 hour drive from Rome on the express highways. The Gargano peninsula is very beautiful, but we also liked the coast towns south if there, example Trani.

Umbria and the Adriatic coast? Orvieto, Assisi, plenty of small towns around and up the coast to Ravenna?

I like Zoe's recommendation of the small towns of Lazio. Great info from Walks of Italy's blog in two parts here and here.

We loved Abruzzo for its authenticity. Santo Stefano di Sassinaio is a "dead" town brought back to life by the Albergo Diffuso, little Castelli with its incredible ceramics, and the mountain towns of Pescasseroli and Tagliacozzo. Or you can go down to the sea at Roseto where many Italian families spend their beach time, and few tourists do.

Perhaps a combination of Lazio and Abruzzo in 5 days depending on the mileage you want to cover.
