5 day itinerary for Emilia-Romagna

We are beginning to plan a spring trip and would be interested if anyone has a 4-5 day itinerary for Emilia Romagna they would be willing to share. I've been fascinated since reading Grishams book "Playing for Pizza" and would like to take some time to explore

I agree with Ken, but I'd also suggest considering a side trip to Verona while you're in the neighborhood. I agree with basing in Bologna because Emiglia-Romana is not known for its nightlife and Bologna is at least a college town.

I would have included Verona on my list except the original poster specified an itinerary for Emilia-Romagna and Verona isn't in Emilia-Romagna although close and certinaly worth a visit.

In Maranello just outside of Modena you will find the Ferrari factory and museum - I am not a big car buff but last year I went there anyway and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Also, check out Locanda del Feudo in the little town of Castelvetro near Modena. A great hotel with a marvelous kitchen - we were there on a Sunday and at dinner I swear the whole town was there. The food was just excellent. The hotel is about eight rooms - all suites - very comfortable. Have fun.

Hey, Kent. I don't worry about your so-called rules ;)

Verona is Verona and if I had a choice between it and Parma, I'd go to Verona.

I'd love to hear from someone who has been to Mantua, by the way. It looks like its in a cool setting- either that or it has a lot of mosquitoes.

My daughter and I did not enjoy Verona that much this spring, possibly because we were on day 11 of 13 day trip and both tired. The amphitheater is quite something and I think it would be a special place to see an Opera. They were setting up the stage for Aida when we were there, but both were wiped out and hopped an early train back to Venice

All the cities mentioned are worth spending some time in. Funny you should mention "Playing for Pizza". I played basketball for an Italian team based in Maestre in the early 70's. Grisham got it right on (only he wrote about football). I did not make much money but I ate great for 3 years.
