Five adults renting an apartment for a one week trip to Rome the end of March...neighborhood suggestions?
Thanks
Assuming you want to stay in the city center, that is very walkable so it doesn't really make a difference where you are - you'll always be no more than five minutes away from a monument or landmark. Do you have anything special that you think you might need? For instance, some particularly old buildings may have apartments for rent, but not have A/C, or an elevator. Companies such as fromhometorome or homeaway offer both in most of their accommodations.
Hello - I am not exactly sure what the makeup of the group is (for example, are you all female, are there married couples, etc...) but I found an apartment that sleeps 5 right near Termini station (which is perfect for access to anywhere in the city). It's called Termini Angie Loft and I found it on Booking.com. Granted, Termini can be a little iffy, but as far as it's practicality in getting from A to B (no metro pun intended), it's a great location.
I usually stay in the Monti neighborhood. I find it convenient to get to the train station, if needed and in a good area to walk to see most (if not all) of everything. It feels "local" with restaurants and shops.
Prati would be my choice. I spent 8 nights in Rome this summer, 3 near Campo de Fiori and 5 in Prati, on the side of the river near the Vatican. It was great - very residential, great restaurants, great and safe areas to walk around and enjoy the people, no pickpockets or beggars (probably because no tourists.) The apartment I stayed in is perfect for 5 - 3 bedrooms, 2 double and 1 single; 3 bathrooms; terrific kitchen and living areas; view of St Peter's Basilica. It was very clean, good included breakfast, very nicely decorated, with a small elevator and a doorman on weekdays. I'd stay there again in a minute. I would be less likely to return to the campo de Fiori, it was more crowded and the street was noisy all night. I had to sleep with my noise-cancelling headphones on. The Prati apartment is a five-minute walk to Castel Sant'Angelo, walking straight away from the river. So there's my two cents. Here's the link: San Pietro Arte in Suite.
It's an easy walk to the sites in the other side of the river. I walked over and back most every day, and also took the 72 bus a few times when I was tired. It stops just around the corner.
P.S. The owner told me the price is lower when booking directly on their site. (I had booked through booking.com)
Pretty much anywhere in the historic center would be fine. Watch out for noisy piazzas.
We have stayed in 5 different locations, and off of Campo di Fiore, not overlooking it, was our favorite.
Make sure wherever you search, you look up the location on Google Maps and look at the street view. It helps to know if you are selecting a busy street or a quiet alley. We always choose the quieter street !
Pam,
I rented VRBO 194513 last year with a few of my friends. It's near Piazza Navona. Walked to Pantheon and Trevi fountain. Grocery store nearby also. We were very pleased with the apartment.
We rented an apartment in the Monti area and loved the area. The neighborhood gets high marks from Rick and other travel guidebooks. We found the apartment through Airbnb and in comparison to other cities we've visited (like London), the cancellation policies were very flexible. Be sure to rent only from properties with plenty of reviews. Have a great trip!
