5/6 Days for Como and Monterosso

My wife and I have 5 to 6 days for Como and Monterosso. We love to experience local culture with restaurants, cafe's, sight seeing and wine. Can anyone recommend moderate nice hotels $200 - $300 per night in September with views. Where to eat as well. Thanks in advance. Pittsburgh Joe

Hi Joe, assuming you are traveling in Sept 2015, not next year, you are starting your search for lodging very late to be choosy, and to seek rooms with views. September is prime time for these areas, and the various towns and hotels will be very busy with visitors. I suggest you start by going to booking.com or another similar reservations site, put in your specific dates, and see what you find available. Then, if you have to choose among a few hotels or inns, you might come back to this forum with specific names and seek input from people that know those.
By the way, when you write "Como" are you referring to towns around the lake in general, or specially the town of Como on the lake? Most people on this forum seem to prefer Varenna or perhaps Bellagio as the best towns to stay in, and then use the ferry system to easily explore others areas around the lake.

Hotel du Lac in Varenna is very nice. It is on the lake and probably has views from some rooms. Price range may be right for you. I stayed there about fifteen years ago, so things may have changed. There was a wonderful buffet breakfast included.

Joe,

Could you clarify if you're looking for a hotel in the town of Como or in Varenna which is where many in the group here prefer to stay?

If you're planning on travelling in Monterosso this September, it could be difficult to find accommodations at this late date. However, it doesn't hurt to try. Here are a few possibilties you can check.....

  • Hotel Villa Steno
  • Hotel Pasquale
  • Hotel La Spiaggia
  • Hotel Villa Adriana
  • Hotel Porto Roca

There are lots of smaller B&B's and hotels as well. If you have a copy of the Italy guidebook, there are good listings there.
