Lake Garda

I have posted a couple of other posts and appreciate all the great information.

We have decided to stay on Lake Garda and would like to do so for 3 nights. Can any recommend a place to stay? We are not looking to break the bank but something clean, safe, and in a good location. We plan on doing some hiking around the lake and taking the ferries to access other towns during the day.

Thanks

Malcesine is a lovely little town on the east side of the lake near the north end. It is ideally situated for hiking, as MOnte Balco rises 5000 feet above the town, and you can take a cablecar up to the top, hike around, and walk down (or ride halfway down and walk from there).

The boats serve this town and you can visit all over the lake.

Look on Tripadvisor for reviews of the places to stay---there are many, both right on the lake an dup the hill, but still with views. We stayed (3 nights) at Hotel Villa Carmen, which is north of town, with nice views on the lake from the balcony, and a nice walk into the town along the lake. You won't find revies of this one. If we were to go back, we would stay at Hotel Castello, which is on the lake at the base of the castle. But there ar lots of places to stay---choose the one that fits your budget and has a nice location.

In the summer of 2007 our family of 4 spent a week out of a 3 wk. trip in a lovely apartment at agriturismo Ca del Baldo which is not far from the villages on the east side of Lake Garda. We stayed in the apartment Il Fienile. You can check it out at www.cadelbaldo.com This agriturismo is located on the outskirts of Caprino Veronese and if you have a car is an easy drive to villages such as Torri del Benaco, Lazise, Garda, Bardolino and Sirmione. Roberta and her lovely family run the agriturismo and she speaks 4 languages including her native Italian. We rented for a week (Sat. to Sat.)but I know people who have rented for less time. Let me know if you need more info.
