Paris Museum Passes

Does anyone have good or bad experiences with Paris Museum Pass?

We are staying for 7 days in June...2 adults and 2 teenage kids ...plan to do Louvre, Rodin, D'Orsay museums, and 1 day for Versailles. Main attraction for us of Paris pass is not getting stuck in lines. We want to do the river cruise too. So thinking it might be a good option to go for the 4 day pass. Or should we buy tickets separately?

Well my time and money are very important, and I have found there are ways so I don't have to waste either. I consider the MP a waste of money for me. I only visit one or two musuems a day,, so I know the pass does not save me money. It could,, if I used it at least three or more times a day though ( but I am a person who enjoys spending a long time in museums, I do not just hit the well known highlights like many tourists do)

Lines at Versailles- Buy ticket online ahead of time, actually, with teens, make it really fun and do it with the Fat Tire Bike Tours, you will all enjoy that ,, and you do not have to be fit , just fun loving.

Lines at Louvre- Easy peasy to avoid by NOT using the Pyramid entrance,, one of the single most useful tips I have ever found on a forum, and its TRUE. Enter through the underground shopping mall and buy tickets from machine. I have done this at least 7 times,, always in summer, and never waited more then 10 minutes to go through security( which no pass allows you to bypass anyways)

Lines at Orsay- buy ticket for Orsay same time you buy ticket at Rodin,, it is avaiable there as a package ( look online site if you don't believe me) .

BTW,, YOu mention the Paris "pass" .. there is a Paris Visite pass and a Paris Museum Pass, most feel the PVP is not a good value and I am not completely sure which one you mean.

Have teens bring id for museums if they look "old" I was never asked for my kids, they were young enough to not look close to 18 , but if your teens are then they should bring id to get in free.

You might get more responses if you post this in the "To the West" section rather than in this Italy section. Good luck.

In the subject line of this thread you refer to the Paris Museum Pass and in your post you refer to a river cruise. Since a cruise is included in the Paris Pass package, it looks to me like you are confusing two different passes. A Paris Museum Pass and a Paris Visite transportation pass are included in the Paris Pass package, but you can buy the museum pass separately and you also can buy a variety of transportation passes separately. And you should! The Paris Visite pass is overpriced. Besides, your teenagers will have free entry to all museums covered by the Paris Museum Pass (but not independent museums) so they don't need one.

For all your transportation ticket and pass options, with links to detailed explanations of each one, go here.

For a Seine River cruise on a small boat I recommend Bateaux Les Vedettes du Pont-Neuf.

Tim's right about the cruise. And you can buy tickets (vouchers, actually) online at a discount. When I was there, a year ago, there were 2 windows for tickets, one with a line for buying tickets, and one without a line for voucher-holders. I timed my cruise for sunset - was perfect, cruising as the lights went on and daylight turned to night.

The PMP may not save you money, but it won't cost you more that individual tickets, if you plan well. There are other sights too, not just museums. Avoid the Paris Visite Card!

Also check into the navigo decouvert for transportation. You can get a one-week pass that will save you a lot, depending on what day you arrive - the week goes from Mon-Sun.

The Carnavalet Museum is lovely and free.

Hi there, thank you for the advice!

I am about to buy tickets for river cruise at Bateaux Les Vedettes du Pont-Neuf, and they have spring special now... Do I buy tickets for a specific date and time, or just buy them on-line and use them any day?

When I bought, they were just vouchers to be used any time. I'd read the website carefully anyway, just to be sure. Or try to buy them, see if they ask you to choose a date and time. If you get to the cc info and you haven't specified a date, you'll be ok.
