What is the best way to get from the Dorsoduro area of Venice (Ca'Rezzonico, Accademia or Zattere stops) to Marco Polo Airport? My husband and I will be there in early October, and want a reasonably priced way and reasonable travel time. Water taxi is too expensive and I've heard that buses can take hours. I would appreciate your advice on this. Thanks. Susan
When my wife and I went to Venice in April, we took a water taxi. I know it's expensive, but, trust me, everything in Venice is expensive (except gelato). And if you have any luggage at all, the vaporetto will be a challenge. Maybe you can find another couple going at the same time to split the taxi.
In May I took the Alilaguna water bus to the airport for 12E, it took one hour. Very scenic ride!
Go to Alilaguna.com for the schedules.
I also stayed in Dorsoduro and I took the vaporetto to the Plaza Roma. I intended to take the bus but missed it as I was told the wrong one. So I got a taxi (real one - a car) and it dropped me right at the terminal door. A lot less stress. I don't know how much it was as I shared it with a guy who insisted on paying but I think it was around 20 Euro, maybe 30. From memory it took about half and hour. I have been told the water taxi stop is a reasonable walk from the terminal but as I haven't used it I can't say for certain. As said above nothing is inexpensive in Venice. I
Cathie is right-the Alilaguna water bus is fast and cheap. It isn't a "water taxi", but a vaporetto. And we traveled with luggage. It is just down the sidewalk from the airport. We did have to take the vaporetto down the Canal to the St. Mark's vaporetto stop to catch it.
We took an early morning vaparetto to Piazza Roma and from there the bus directly to the airport. It cost 7 euro.
