We will be in Rome for 4 1/2 days at the end of May. Is it possible to do Orvieto for half of a day trip and Tivoli for the other half. I'm just not sure where these two places are in relation to each other and to Rome.
I agree. They are in somewhat opposite directions. Orvieto to the north, and Tivoli to the east.
I haven't been to Tivoli, but Orvieto filled two days easily. You could do it in one, but I see no reason to go for only half a day (unless it's a lunch stop between Rome & Florence). You'd almost spend more time on the train than you would in the city.
Agree, Orvieto makes a nice day trip on it's own, leave in the morning, wander, eat lunch and get back to Rome late afternoon.
What's the hurry? Take your time and go to Orvieto for the day and enjoy the Estrucan tombs, drink some Orvieto Classico wine, and marvel and the duomo! Enjoy your time in Italy and let it soak in!
