Rental Car for Tuscany

My husband and I are going to Italy for 14 days in May. After spending a few days in Rome, we wanted to take the train from Rome to Orvieto, pick up a rental car, also see Civita di Bagnoregio and then drive to our next accommodation outside Siena. Our problem: The rental car place in Orvieto is closed on Sundays.

I have been to Italy 3 other times, and have rented a car once before (pick up and drop off in siena) It is my husband's first time. He will be driving, I will be navigating.

Does anyone know of a rental car place in/near Rome that we can get to by public transit, is "close" to a major roadway and is NOT in the city center. I am nervous about driving IN Rome.

I know we can go to the airport, but that is not really on the way...

Thanks!

Could you adjust your itinerary to drop off the car in Orvieto late Saturday afternoon and then train back to Rome either Saturday or Sunday?

How about doing Orvieto as a day trip from Rome one of the days tht you're in Rome & then on that Sunday, take the train from Rome to Siena & pick up your car there? Have you checked to see if the rental places in Siena are open on Sunday? Good luck.

Most trains stop at another town south of Orvieto (Orte). You might look into picking the car up there.
