Venice during Carnivale

My 20 yr old son has chance to go to Venice for 1.5 days in Feb. First time in Venice and not great pushing self with crowds. Suggestions on itinerary given it is also Carnivale?

He should expect a zoo, but a wonderful, amazing zoo. I went to carnivale when I was 20, stayed up all night and the took the train back to Rome in the morning, and I'll always remember it. I can't really suggest an itinerary, it's not really the best time to "see" Venice, to do that he should go back another time. They always do a big concert in Piazza San Marco, and there are lots of college students from all over Italy (and the US). Tell him to bundle up, it gets cold at night!

I haven't been. A friend went and said it was like a slow moving river of people with people looking down from balconies above. If I could afford it, I would attend one of the balls.
