Munich to Venice

What's the best and cheapest way to get to Venice from Munich for 2 ppl? TGV gave me 270E/2pp (9 hrs). Bahn said "unknown tariff abroad".

Trenitalia is showing 115 euros per person and about 9 1/2 hours.

Air Berlin flies from Munich to Venice Marco Polo, so you might want to check them. Looks to be anywhere from 30 euros plus fees to 150 euros plus fees and takes aboiut 4 hours. you connect through Dusseldorf.

It looks like there is an overnight train from Munich that leaves around 21:00 and gets to Venice about 6:30 if thats of interest to you.

IMO, your best daytime train route is Muenchen-Verona-Venezia Santa Lucia, departing Muenchen at 09:31 and arriving at Venezia Santa Lucia at 17:10 for a total travel time of just over 7 1/2 hours. If you book the Munich-Verona leg well in advance (up to 90 days allowed) on the German Rail site, www.bahn.de, you can get a discount fare as low as 39 euro. The 2nd class fare for Verona-Venice on the EuroStar Italia train that arrives at 17:10 is 18.50 euro which makes your total fare 57.50 euro/person.

You can buy your Verona-Venice tickets from a station ticket machine when you get to Verona. You'll have plenty of connection time.

To get discount fares on the direct Munich-Venice night train, also book well in advance at www.bahn.de.
