4 weeks in Florence

We are planning to stay in Florence for the month of October 2018. We are a couple, 70years old, in good shape for our ages.
I am looking for a vacation rental (apt) in the historic center, ground floor or lift access, with an outdoor space (balcony or garden) for @ $3000 /4 weeks. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Also--we are planning day trips throughout Tuscany. No car--we plan to walk/train/bus travel, and don't mind tours. But we really like to explore on our own. Again, suggested itineraries are appreciated.

We have spent time in Roma and Venice, but only 5 days in Florence. We are looking forward to being Italian for a few weeks.
Grazie.

Hello bikowski
You can check out cross-pollinate.com They have apartments and bnb's. read about what they have, as in ground floor and lifts, where in town they are, if they have kitchens, washer/dryer, a/c, public transportation, etc You could email them to see if discounts for month long stay. Happy travels

Apartments with gardens in the historical centers are rare. Even balconies aren't too common in the historical center. Elevators? Not everywhere either, if you can handle a few stairs, it will increase your choices. Be aware that ground floors is generally where shops are, therefore 1st floor and up (2nd and up in American speak) is what you most likely will find.
But you can find plenty of apartments for under 500 euro a week, even in the historical center.
Did you check AirBnB?

Thank you for the other sites. I have been to airbnb, vrbo. TripAdvisor is a waste of time. Vrbo(homeaway) has been the most promising, but I will certainly check these others.

Booking.com also offers many apartments nowadays. Homelidays is another site.

Okay--I found on VRBO a very nice ground floor with private garden, kitchen, heat and air, washer etc.
It is across from the perfumeria, SMN area. Between the train station and Duomo. Is anyone familiar with that area?
I recall the walk is an easy stroll through SMN piazza.

Sounds like the apartment is on Via della Scala. The area is perfectly fine, although that block has a lot of businesses and traffic including buses. You may wish to confirm that the bedrooms are towards the back of the apartment (sometimes obvious from the pictures - e.g. access to garden is from a bedroom). You'll be within a block of the bus station and about two blocks from the train station, and it would be about a 10 minute walk to the Duomo area or San Lorenzo Market area, maybe 5 minutes more if you're taking your time or window shopping along the way.

It's a nice area, very convenient to sights and to the train/bus stations.

Thank you for that input. I will certainly check on the bedroom location, but from photos it seems to have a walled garden.
We chose to stay in Firenze because it is a walkable city, so that is part of our plan. Close access to bus/train is perfect for our excursions.
Thanks again
