We will have a rental car and plan to rent a place for 3 adults for 4 nights in November (16-20) . Suggestions for best town to stay in that lends itself to relaxing, enjoying and touring the area.
Thanks!

Prepare for panic at driving on the AC, but since you are talking about November, I will go out on a limb and say that's not crazy. But of course do make sure you know about parking restrictions and driving restrictions.
What day trips will you be doing?
I think the consensus is that rental cars are a liability on the AC. While you will be arriving in the off season, and the traffic will probably not be as brutal as it is in say, September, you will still have to find parking places if you travel along the coast by car.
The AC is divided into potential sights and areas of interest. If you plan on traveling to Capri, or to Pompeii/Herculaneum or possibly Naples, then your better home base would be Sorrento. If, on the other hand, you want to focus on Positano and Amalfi, then Salerno is the better choice. Be aware that the ferries may not be running to Capri with the regularity you hope for, if at all, and a number of businesses may be closed because it is out of season.
Have not planned yet. Would love to see the sights, but would be happy to park our car and take a bus or train tour into towns.
Thanks for any help!
No trains past Vietri. Buses are an option, but few ferries in November. If you don't need the car before or after, it's just as easy to do the whole thing by public transport.
It's always helpful to play around with Google maps when going somewhere like this to really get a sense of it.
beautiful Sorrento is a great base. Realize driving is treacherous on the amalfi coast road. And parking and pull outs almost non existent. The bus and or ferries work well unless the seas are rough then ferries wont operate. Sorrento will also be easier to park your car..
Millie, I have noticed that you have posted a number of times and while the other posters on this Forum are happy to help you plan, I do suggest that you use a good guide like the RS Italy guide to assist you in firming up some of your plans. The answers to many of your questions (and to questions you have not thought about asking) are contained in guidebooks. I believe it will really help you to get a great overview of your vacation and to recommend things to do, places to go, and food to eat. Have a great trip.
Thanks to all for helpful insights. More than one source for information gives a great context.
I do have RS Guidebooks, but appreciate first hand experiences from fellow explorers. I love RS guidebooks and also videos!

With a car, I'd stay in Salerno - in fact that's exactly what I did in February a couple years ago. I found the restaurants cheaper and better in Salerno than in the AC towns - but be sure to stop at Sal de Riso in Minori for pastries (to die for). Salerno is a very pretty town with a big sandy beach, perfect for a stroll and a gelato.
