4 ladies in going to Venice for the first time

We are 4 ladies arriving in Venice in need of transportation from the airport to our apartment. Can you recommend how to accomplish this?

Also, we need transportation from our apartment to the Cunard Cruise port in Venice. Same request.

What is the easiest way to get around Venice? Walk or bus?

Thank you!

The only ways to get around Venice are on foot or by boat - a vaporetto is the boat-version of a city bus. To get from the Marco Polo Airport into the city, you can take a bus to the Piazzale Roma (least expensive), an Alilaguna boat (somewhat costlier), or a water taxi (very expensive, but perhaps not too bad if split among four people). If you expect to ride a vaporetto much, you might want to buy a vaporetto pass (for 1, 2, 3, or 7 days - otherwise, it costs 7.50 Euros per ride). edited to add that you could also take a land taxi from the airport to the Piazzale Roma, but that would be as far as it could go.

The cheapest way to get from the airport to anywhere in Venice (except for very near the bus depot) is 14 EUR per person, so that is 56 EUR. For 107 EUR you can prepay and book a water taxi to take you from the airport dock to the closest place they can dock the boat to your apartment. If you want to share the apartment location with us, we can advise further. Could be you may only need the bus.

We stayed in Venice near the Doge's Palace. It was far more convenient for us to take a water taxi to the airport. (Cheap? No. Efficient? Very.)

If you could give us a general idea of where you're staying in Venice (no need to name the hotel), somebody could probably give you more a more specific suggestion.

I was just there two weeks ago with two friends...we are all ladies...one 34, one 52, one 54.
When we arrived initially we took the #5 bus (3 euros) from the airport to the bus depot right at the train station then took the vaparetto to the stop closest to our hotel.
The second time we arrived at the city we took the Alilaguna water bus (about 12 euros) from the airport (gate #12 at the dock in the airport for the orange line which goes through the Grand Canal). 5 minute walk from the dock to our hotel.
What part of the city is your hotel located in? That will help us give you advice.

Anita, I'm still fascinated by how you got the No 5 bus, then a vaporetto for 3 EUR. Can you share how you got this deal. Do you have a Resident's Card?

If you let us know where you will be staying, we can give directions to the cruise port. There are two cruise ports so we need to know which one your ship will use.

Sam...look back at my post...The first time we arrived we took the bus - the one with wheels. 3 euro round trip from the first stop after the airport. Took the vaparetto after that. We left Venice for a week. The second time we arrived we took the Alilaguna. 12 euros one way.

Anita, I am looking at your first post and you say "from the airport". Now it sounds like you are saying "from the first stop after the airport". That would put you at the Courtyard by Marriott. That is indeed a 1.50 EUR fare, since it is not on the airport grounds. There is a tax levied on people going to/from the airport hidden in the bus fare. Buses in the rest of the Venice/Mestre area are all 1.50 EUR for a 75 minute ticket, but to/from the airport its 8 EUR. But I don't think anyone is going to walk 1 km with luggage to save 6.50 EUR in bus fare. Seems to be the ACTV's thinking as well.
