We are flying into Rome in June and landing at 7:30 am...... want to then take the train from the airport to Arezzo, which leaves at 9:38. Do you think we will have time to get through customs and catch that train? If not we plan to take the train to Rome Termini. The next train leaves that station for Arezzo at 14:53. That would give us about 4 hours in Rome before heading to Arezzo. Suggestions on what we could do in that time period to see some of Rome? We will return to Rome later in the week for two nights but since we may have four extra hours there I was hoping we could find something worthwhile to do while in the Eternal City. Or is there another town on the way to Arezzo we could train to and see for a few hours before continuing to Arezzo. All suggestions welcome. thank you
Check trenitalia.it for trains to Arezzo from either Fiumincino Aeroporto or Roma Termini. I just looked and saw several more than you mentioned. The summer schedule isn't up yet so I'd keep looking. All have at least 1 change - at Roma Termini. Some have 2 changes which you probably don't want.
4 hours at Roma Termini? You could check your luggage and walk around the area. Plenty to see: churches, museums all within walking distance and you could probably do a couple of them.
You have more options to get to Arezzo sooner if you take the train from FCO to Tiburtina in Rome, instead of Termini. The problem with hanging around Termini is that you'll have luggage with you. Yes, you can check it at Termini but that line both to drop off and to pick up luggage can be VERY long. If you pack light and don't mind hauling your bags around, you could get something to eat at Mercato Centrale at Termini and also check out the nearby Diocletian Baths and the connected church Santa Maria Degli Angeli e Dei Martiri.
