We will be traveling in Italy, from Rome, to Florence, to Venice, for 10 days in February. The first 6 days are 2 days each city. Then we have 4 unscheduled days. Any suggestions? We were wondering about visiting a neighboring country? Would it be worth the time to head south? I'm more interested in the country towns than the big cities. We leave from Venice early on the 10th day.
You should consolidate rather than stretch further, I think. At minimum, another day in Rome, another in Florence (or 2 days in Siena) with day trips if you get bored with the cities. If you are realy interested in the countryside, rent a car in Tuscany and spend the four days there.
I would suggest that you have an excellent opportunity to extend your stay in each of the 3 cities by one day each. There's really a lot to see in these cities and 2 days each, including travel time, is really a bit short although we freqently see travelers on this site doing exactly that.
Thanks for the input! We can't change the first 6 days, reservations are set. I wondered about going back to Rome? I really don't know how long that would take or what it would cost. We will probably stay to the north, but where?? In February our choices are more limited.
Unfortunately, doubling back to spend an extra day makes less sense. Maybe the best thing is to base yourself in Sienna for the four days, with a car, and explore the hill towns. Return to Florence as a day trip if you like.
Hello Stacy. Are you certain that you can not change your reservation dates at Hotels in ITALY ? I agree with Kent : I suggest go to only Rome, and Florence (with a day trip to a hill town in Tuscany), and Venice.
