4 days in Rome - itinerary help

I will be traveling alone and spending 4 days in Rome in late July - I would like to get suggestions on finding guided tours that will show me as much of Rome as possible each day I am there (and how to reserve those tours). I would like to see all the major sites over the 4 days I am there....if anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it! Dwight

Thank you Sheron for the info! Where/how would I sign up for those tours...search for them on the internet? Also - what part of Rome would you or anyone else recommend I stay? Travestere, Navona, Vatican, etc.. area???? I would like to be near the sites, but also near restaurants/wine bars/pubs. I am Ok with walking to different areas if needed. I am not too worried about street noise in the evening, I just enjoy being around all the activity going on. Thanks again!

You might look into the guided tours that Through Eternity offers. We took their Forum/Colosseum tour in the morning & then their Palatine Hill tour in the afternoon. We found the tour guide to be very informative. We also took a 3-hour guided tour of the Vatican Museums/Sistine Chapel/St. Peter's with Presto Tours. We enjoyed this tour very much as well. These were the only guided tours we took in Rome because everything else was very doable on our own. As for the Pantheon, Angel Tours offers a free half-hour tour every evening (except Sundays) at 7pm so you might consider this as well.

4 of us stayed 4 nights in Rome in May. We, too, used Through Eternity Tours for the forum/coloseo. There were 10 of use on the tour. We used Context Tours for the vatican with 6 of us on the tour. They can be expensive but worth it, especially in the vatican. Ask for Jose; he teaches drawing and will point out things you might not see. We used a headset on our own through the Borghese; they only allow you in for 2 hrs. We stayed near the Spanish Steps. Pizzza Navona, Spanish Steps, Pantheon are all 10-15 minute walk. All tours are listed in Rick's book or just google them. Sorry we missed the Apian Way. I think you can take a bus tour for that one.

Thank you for the tour suggestions - I am planning to use the 2 tour groups recommended. I am also getting Rick's book to help me out. Do any of you have any hotels/B&B to recommend? Places you stayed that are highly recommended?

Definitely by the RS Rome 2011 book. It's filled with very helpful lodging suggestions for all price ranges and lots of different neighborhoods in Rome. But take Rick's descriptions seriously. If he describes some place as bland or the front desk as surly, he means it.

We booked with Through Eternity Tours for the Vatican, Colosseum and Twilight tours. Also booked with them 2 years ago. Small groups, very informative guides with great recommendations for restaurants later. The twilight tour starts at 6:30 PM at the Spanish steps. 3 plus hours later you are at Piazza Navona with a completly different perspective than if you had done this during the day. We returned the next day to some of our favorite spots.
Enjoy.
