4 Days in Rome

Hi all,

I have 4 fulls days in Rome in October this year (Monday 27th through Thursday 30th). I am basically following Rick's guide but would like some suggestions from all of you. FYI I am traveling alone.

Here are days I was planning:

  • Caeser Shuffle (Col, Forum, Capitol Hill, Pantheon, etc)
  • Vatican (St Peters, dome, Museum) - probably a tour with Angel tours
  • Vatican 2 (Pope on Weds, Scavi Tour, Castel Sant'Angelo) and Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps

Other options for the fourth day:
- Ostia Antica (though I will be going to Pompeii later)
- Borghese Gallery
- National Museum of Rome

Any suggestions?

We had 4 days also and booked 2 all day tours with Through Eternity Tours. One for the Vatican and one dauy for the Roman sights. These were full all day tours. We thought they were well worth the expense. Wasn't really impressed with the Spanish steps when compared with the rest of Rome. For sure take a "wild" taxi ride, it's worth the expense. The Metro is very easy to get around on and felt totally safe.

Oh no! You're going to make me choose between Ostia Antica and the Borghese Gallery? Those were my top two favorite sites in Rome!

Hmm.....well I haven't been to the National Museum of Rome, but I would expect that you could do that and the Borghese on the same day without too much difficulty. I would boil it down to whether you are more of a museum/art person or a history/outdoors person. If you are both like me...flip a coin?

Sounds fine. I traveled solo to Rome and just wandered. Very walkable city.
U can see the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Campo Fiori, and the Spanish Steps easily in a day.

Go to google maps and if you have the address of where you are going to stay type in the address. If not type in Colloseum Rome Italy When the map comes up click on satellite and a bird's eye view of Rome and where all things are will be there for you to peruse. It's GREAT! Kind of freaky as in 1984 Big Brother but it does show you that with the exception of the Vatican how close things are in Rome. I printed it out and used it as a reference while I was there.

Have a wonderful visit.

I am probably more an outdoors/history person but I am spending 3 days each in Sorrento (for Pompeii and Vesuvius and hiking) and Cinque Terre (for hiking). I am spending 21 full days in Italy.

We did Rick's "night walk" in the morning, except Spanish steps, then walked up to Borghese Gallery. Picked up lunch and had a break in the park. Entered Borghese at 1:00 (need reservations) Finshed Borghese about 2:30 and walked back to Spanish steps and Cappucine Crypts.

Lauren, please give yourself time to just walk and discover...the piazzas, markets, narrow laneways,Trastevere, people watching, etc. Villa Borghese is wonderful for a few hours (take a picnic lunch), especially as you write that you are an outdoors type. I have Tivoli and Hadrian's Villa tagged for my next trip. Enjoy Roma.

Buy a few guide books. Each will give you a different perspective on the same sights. Take the red #110 ho ho bus at the Termini station. It covers over 80 sightseeing destinations in a 2.5 hour loop. Sit on top in front for the best view. Audio guide will describe each sight. You don't need a structured tour. Metro and train is very very easy to use.
