4 days in Dolomites with Kids

We are traveling to Italy in June and wish to spend 4 nights in the Dolomites with our 2 kids, ages 12 and 10.

We are an active family, and would love to do possibly a 1-2 night hut to hut hike, a via ferrata climb, bike riding and hiking. Does anyone have any recommendations for those activities, or other activities that would be great for our family.

Thanks in advance,
Carolyn

One of the prettiest huts I've seen in the Dolomites is up on the Seiser Alm...it's called the Rauchutte. It might be a great place to either start or end your hike. They definitely have a restaurant (AMAZING FOOD) but I'm not sure if they offer lodging. There are many places to stay in the area. Another one I really like that is right on the Via Ferrata is the Langkofelhutte...it's in a spectacular setting and is very old with thick down comforters and amazing food. If you want to do a little climbing there are some easy, small routes behind the hut...steel stairs and pegs. This one is within an easy day's hike of the Rauchutte...in fact your can see from one to the other. When you look at the webpage for the Rauchutte, the Langkofelhutte is about halfway up the giant mountain you see in the background...you can hike to a gondola that takes you part way up and then hike the rest of the way to the hut. Would be perfect for a two night adventure with your kids! There are lots of other hotels up on the Seiser Alm too...many of them have playgrounds for kids, farm animals, and pools.
After the hiking if you go down to Ortisei there are lots of hotels with pools that are very kid friendly. Trostburg castle is a really nice place for kids to visit...you can walk up an old, medieval road and then tour the castle...it's small and will hold their attention. Tours are only in Italian and German though!

Thanks so much for the information, Anita. That sounds like an excellent option, and I love that it includes the climbing option.

Do you know how we can store our luggage and park our rental car while we are staying overnight in the hut please?
