Landing in Milan, have four days to visit Lake Como, Parma, Ferrari museum to Bologna...What is recommended and where to stay.
Rental car in Milan vs Bologna (headed to Rome with sightseeing of vineyards/Tuscany area)? Will not stop in Firenze.
I'd say start doing some research to see what you want to see. Highlights can be found in Rick Steves book but Bologna not covered. Trip Advisor has some good info on Parma and Bologna.
How much time will you have total after Bologna? Are you definitely going to Rome? Can then send some recommendations. Also, about what is your lodging budget?
WE are flying into Milan, visiting Lake Como, Parma, Ferrari Museum in Modena/Maranello and then drive south to Montepulciano and stayin in Soriano Nel Cimino for 4 nights and depart from Rome...
Budget up to $100 USD per night for 2
We are thinking of renting a car in Milan and drive down to Rome and return car in Rome...Any suggestions where a car is not needed?
We love Emilia-Romagna. Parma is nice but also Reggio-Emilia and Modena. All these places can be visited by train, but if you have a rental car, you can stay in the countryside near the cities. Each city has a nice historical center and history, and great food! We have gone to Bologna several times and stayed at the Savhotel which has parking and a great breakfast buffet. There is a bus stop nearby if you want to go into downtown, which is very historical and worth seeing. To get from Bologna to Tuscany the tollroad will be the fastest- less than 2 hours. Then you can skirt Florence and go right into the Tuscan countryside. Are you returning your car to the airport? It certainly would be easier than driving into Rome. I will look at where we stayed and send you the information. Sounds like our budget was like yours.
thank you for your suggestions. Looking forward to more info on accommodations
