My husband and I are traveling to Italy in May. We will be heading to Tuscany region after 3 days stay along Amalfi Coast. We will be in the region for 4 days. We want to see Florence as well as Tuscan countryside and hill towns. We enjoy biking and being active as well as food and wine, beautiful vistas, architecture and art. I am having trouble determining how best to spend our days in the Tuscan region. Should we stay in Florence as our base and do day trips or move around, staying in different cities/towns. After Tuscany, we are heading to Rome for the last few days before heading home. Any suggestions are very much appreciated!! Thank you
Without a car, you should use Florence as a base.
With a car, you should probably NOT use Florence as a base (Florence city center is verboten to cars) but rather some smaller town.
Here are some ideas for day trips. Remember that Florence alone will take at least a couple of days (or at least one full day from midnight to midnight, if you want to cut it really short), so you only have time for a couple of day trips at most.

I had a similar amount of time in Tuscany on my last trip to Italy. I stayed in Florence 3 nights, and Siena 1 night. I wish I had been able to stay in Siena longer, but 2-3 nights in Florence is just about right. It's easy to get around from Florence... I took a half day and went to visit Pisa.
Hi. I am Kimberly's husband or there is another Kimberly out there with the same travel plans as us...
Hotel reviews online are schizophrenic. Can any one make recommendations for florence hotels.
Near areas suitable for walkers preferred. Thanks
