4-5 nights between Florence and Sorrento (without Rome)

After 5 nights in Florence and 1 night in Cinque Terre, we are trying to figure out a good itinerary.

Tentative plans:
train from Florence to Lucca
1 night in Lucca (hotel points)
train from Lucca to Siena
Rent a car in Siena and spend 2 nights in Siena (hotel points)-
2 more nights on the way to Sorrento (drop rental car in Sorrento)

No time in Rome needed. We have been there 2X on previous trips and plan to take the train back to Rome after 5 nights in Sorrento. We will spend 2 nights in Rome before flying back to the US from FCO.

Looking for driving routes and best places to stay for 2 nights for this portion of our trip--feasible options for seeing as much as we can without feeling rushed or stressed. Thank you!

Are the Lucca and Siena times unchangeable? I would certainly consider adding more time in either or both places and then do the drive to Sorrento in one go. There is so much more than you can see in 1-2 nights in both, especially with a car.
However, if that is not possible or not of interest, I have an interest in Gaeta. I have spent time in southern Tuscany and very much liked Orbetello and Pitigliano. In that area and into Lazio you have lots of Etruscan sites.

One option would be to stay in Assisi or Spello for 2 nights and explore the many interesting towns in that part of Umbria. You could head directly there or visit towns along the way. The downside of that option is that you're left with about a 5 hour drive to Sorrento.

A thought regarding your tentative plans. Lucca is a bit of a detour on the way to Siena. You might consider adding a night to Florence and visiting Lucca as a long day trip. By the time you factor in all the packing and unpacking required to change hotels, a day trip could provide just as much sightseeing time in Lucca as an overnight.
