I've spent time in Rome on two previous trips and have a connection through Rome this summer. I was going to just take the train straight up to Montepulciano but thought I'd spend an overnight in Rome since the airport trains go through the city anyway. I'm looking for recommendations beyond the major sites. (Colosseum, Forum, Vatican, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Pantheon). I've done the day trips to Tivoli and Napoli/Pompeii too. Not a huge fan of museums, so I'm leaning towards Villa Borghese, Appian Way, something like that? I'm good to walk several miles a day. Thank you!
I highly recommend Ostia Antica. It's an easy train ride from Rome.
Ostia Antica would be my choice also. Similar to, but different from Pompeii. But it's definitely worth a visit due precisely for similarities and differences. Get an early start, and you can be back in Rome by mid afternoon.
Maybe Ninfa Gardens? One hour outside the city by train.
One must reserve a tour ahead of time.
I am done. The end.
Hi Meghan, you might want to check out the Atlas Obscura website (see link below) 134 Cool, Hidden, and Unusual Things to Do in Rome, Italy
Just thought of one more. I am super interested in this new exhibit but seems to be open only on weekends and unfortunately for me doesn't coincide with my schedule.

San Clemente Church if you haven't already been.
Check out Palazzo Valentini next to Trajans Column if you haven’t seen it. You have to get tickets 24 hours in advance though. I definitely second the recommendations of Ostia and San Clemente.
Aquaducts Park, easily reached by metro. Atmospheric and a great place to take pictures. Nary a tourist in sight.
hey hey Meghan

Quartiere Coppede is really cool, and it's in the same general part of the city as Galleria Borghese.
Thank you all for your suggestions. As I'm only in Rome for 24 hours (roughly noon-noon) I'm going to go with some of the in-town suggestions. I've added Ostia Antica to the list of places to go next time though! Italy is my favorite country and the one I keep going back to.
Hi! I think my top pick would be the Vicus Caprarius, the underground aqueduct museum close to Trevi fountain, it will be cool inside & an unusual gem where you see the water flowing below you. And Teatro Marcello was a delight to walk through. Details are here, need to book the Vicus 24 hours ahead on WhatsApp. Here are the details - https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/trip-reports/rome-was-jammed-over-ny-but-still-fun
