Venice and luggage

It was recommended for us to leave our luggage at the bus station in a locker area, once we arrive in Venice until we catch our cruise ship by 5pm what is the distance from the airport to the bus station and then to the port? is it best that we just get a taxi for the day which is easiest & most economic

Here is an alternative and FASTER method for getting to the cruise ship port from the airport. You could try the Alilaguna Line (a water transport company). The "ORO" line goes directly from the airport to San Marco (Giardinetti) where you can catch the "M" line which will take you directly to the cruise ship port. Perhaps you can check with your cruise line and there might be a place at the dock where you can stash your luggage while you do some sightseeing.

Karen: First of all you must get from the Airport to Venice Island and there are several different ways.

1) Private Water Taxi - about 100 Euro to Piazzle Rome where the buses take you or to the Ferrovia stop where the train station is located

2) Bus from Airport to Piazzale Roma, very cheap

3) Alilaguna - larger than a Private Water Taxi, much slower, more people, cheaper than water taxi, more expensive than Bus.

I don't have any personal experience of luggage lockers, but I feel quite sure there are some. My guess is that you would be more likely to find them at the train station rather than Pizzale Roma.

I've never taken a cruise from Venice, but the big cruise ships dock in the Guidecca Canal between Venice Island and Guidecca Island. Private water taxi is always available, other than water taxi - sorry, I don't know.

I'm curious, are you flying into Venice on the same day that your cruise departs? What happens if your flight is delayed and you miss the departure of the ship?

Karen - Hoped you'd give me a call so I could help BUT - Take a water taxi directly to the ship - The baggage handlers will take your luggage, give you a claim ticket for each piece and you can take the rest of the day to see Venice. I've gone out of Venice at least 25 times and the ship will allow you onboard early, will run shuttles into Piazza San Marco - Point of water taxi is that it's a ride you should experience - doesn't sound like you're spending a few days upfront in Venice which I think you'll regret; however, it will give you time to see a few things.
Vaporetto is much cheaper - does take longer - and time is of the essence.

Have a Great trip, Ciao, Greg

Yes, you should spend more time in Venice before your departure. It's totally worth and extra day or two.
