We are taking the ferry from Palermo to Naples and it arrives at 6am! We are then staying up the coast in Ravello. Can one get a taxi that early in the morning or are there ways to hire private drivers to take you around?

Actually, Ravello is down the coast from Naples. I don't know where this particular ferry docks in Naples but the ferry docks in general are not far from the main train station. Naples Centrale is on the upper level and the Naple Garabaldi station for the private Circumvesuviana in on the lower level. The first Circumvesuvians train out to Sorrento departs at 5:11 according to their website. Once in Sorrento, you will need to take the SITA bus to Amalfi. Depending on where your hotel is located in Ravello, you might need a taxi from Amalfi up the hill. I'm not sure if there is a bus.
Walk a few yards and catch the next fast ferry to Amalfi. No need to pay for a taxi to get to the train station. You can purchase tickets in the cafe by the dock, grab a cup of coffee and a snack for the trip.
We did just this a few years ago. (but just to Sorrento, the ferry does go to Amalfi) It was so much easier than trying to figure out the trains, and getting to the train station from the ferry dock.
Do note...the first building you see is the BUS station, not the ferry station! you need to walk over to where the ferries are docked.
You should be able to get the ferry to Amalfi, then hire a taxi from there...it's got to be a lot cheaper than from Naples!
And...since you spent the night on the ferry from Palermo, it's wonderful to sit on the ferry and watch the Amalfi coast sail by! Sit on the left side of the boat for the best land views!
