Walking shoes

What is the best brand/style of women's shoe for 11 days of lots of walking in Italy? Mid October, Venice, Rome, Cinque Terre, Florence. Do we need a sandal as well, or is one pair of great walking shoes enough? How about socks?
Thanks!

Hi Cindy, I purchased a pair of black Ecco walking shoes for my trip this past May and they were wonderful. They are very light weight and I walked hours each day for 2 weeks. I can't speak to October, but when I visited in early May, I wish I had had a pair of sandals to wear while in Rome and Venice.

which brand depends on your body and what works best for you. I wear Merrells because they are sturdy and give me the ankle and arch support that I need. I also take a fairly dressy pair of sandals that I change into in the evening or wear as slippers in my room. Most of us appreciate something to change into after being on our feet all day.
