30 minutes Milano Central

Hi All,

We will be arriving from Zurich into Milano Centrale at 11:35, with a train that leaves at 12:05 for Venice.
We will be very hungry. What is a quick option for grabbing a bite/to go food to have on the plane?
Closest quick food options to platforms?

We have never been and were wondering from those familiar with the Station.

thanks!

There are lots of opportunities, from quick food places in the station, to machines on the platforms which contain drinks and sandwiches. Oh I'd never buy anything out of a machine. I had a connection that was tighter than I wanted there one time a couple of years ago and out of desperation I grabbed a couple of sandwiches for us. They were very good - fresh, tasty and cheap.

The only problem may be that you will be coming from Switzerland where the currency is the Frank (CHF) and the machines only take Euro coins.

You ask about having food for on the plane. Are you going to Venice just to get on a plane? That seems a long way around, doesn't it?

I always find the snacks offered onboard European trains to be quite acceptable, and not overly expensive, They accept multiple currencies too.

There are food kiosks at the main platform area, in addition to machines on the track platforms.

I presume you meant to say you need food on the train, not on the plane. There are no airplanes taking off from Milano Centrale.

Half hour is plenty of time to grab a sandwich from either a fast food restaurant/coffee bar or even one of those vendors with a cart. Sandwiches are also sold on the train if you are traveling on a Frecciabianca train, albeit at a higher price than at the station. If you travel on a regionale then there is no food.

We like Bistro Centrale to pick up sandwiches or salads for the train. Exit the platform area and you will find it across from Binario 17. Thirty minutes is plenty of time to go there and grab something. I usually leave my husband guarding the luggage so I can go in with hands-free to make our purchase.

You are leaving Zurich pretty early, so I'd buy some snacks the night before, to be sure of not starving. Both legs of the train are supposed to have snacks and beverages available, but it's possible for something to go wrong or to be inconvenient. The Migros store at Zurich Hbf station also says it's open from 6:30 Mon-Fri, but not Sat-Sun.

I second the idea of buying something at Zürich Hbf. I did the same thing when traveling on a similar itinerary. However, there are bars with something to eat in the head gallery of Milano C. and the shops at the end of tracks sell snacks.

You'll find much better food in Zurich Hbf to take with you than at Milano Centrale. Also be aware that Milano Centrale is now designed to only allow valid ticket holders access to the tracks. If you leave the area to go get food be sure to have some sort of ticket with you to get back into the track area.

30 minutes is probably enough, but keep in mind you've got to exit the train which could possibly take 5 minutes or so if there are a lot of passengers with luggage in front of you trying to get off also. Then you've got to find your next track and drag your luggage with you sometimes through very crowded areas (especially at Mil Centrale). The 30 minutes you have cannot be fully devoted to a leisurely walk around the station looking for food. Chances are you'll also have to stand in line to buy that food.

Just stock up in Zurich before you leave. And don't forget a nice bottle of fine Swiss wine!
