3 Weeks in Italy November 2022 (Hotels/Restaurants/Transport ideas)

90% set on this schedule. Had to sacrifice many cities so we are not jumping around too much. Also, we need to be in Canicatti for two separate birthday parties. In Venice, we are visiting Belluno for a day. We are in Germany the last week.

If the order seems illogical - please advise, however, I do not have much flexability as we must be visiting our exchange students on weekends - plus the birthday parties holding us in certain locations. I would love Hotel or AirBB recommendations. I think Hotels are perfect for most since 3 nights each. But we are 5 nights in Rome (hotel or AirBB ok) and 5 nights in Ragusa (hotel or AirBB)

We will have a car for 2 weeks in Sicily. Not sure if we should rent a car in Venice or not - or take bus to Belluno?

5 Nights Rome
• Train to Venice (3 Nights) (Day Trip to Belluno)
• Fly to Catania (Rent Car) (Drive to Syracuse – 3 nights)
• Drive to Agrigento (3 nights)
• Drive to Canicatti (1 night) Birthday party
• Drive to Ragusa (5 night)
• Drive to Canicatti (3 night) Birthday party #2
• Drive to Catania Airport (Return Car) Fly to Munich (1 night)
• Train to Regensburg (3 nights)
• Train to Kassel (4 nights) rent car?
• Train to Frankfurt (1 night at Airport Hotel)
• Fly out to USA

3 nights in Agrigento sounds like a lot to me. I am not a classical-ruins person, but I thought Agrigento was considered a one-night sort of place. I'm writing this in transit on a smartphone, so I haven't checked a map. If you must spend 3 nights in Agrigento, perhaps you could day trip to the Villa Romana del Casale near Piazza Armerina during that time.

Siracusa and Ragusa are both great, but 8 nights in that area is a lot. It's forcing you to skip Palermo, which I think is a real shame when you have 2 weeks to work with. I wonder whether it would be possible to substitute Palermo for Siracusa and see Siracusa while you're staying in Ragusa. You'd need to park the car upon arrival in the Palermo area. It is not a city to drive in.

thank you. We could add palermo back. started a new post to fine-tune.
i appreciate your help. I thought agrigento was good to visit our friends in canicatti. My husband wants Syracuse for sure - but we could maybe combine syracuse/ragusa. We prefer to stay in one place as long as possible.

Hi Jette- you did not say what time of year your are going so I am assuming it is next year. Either way a couple of suggestions:
In Agrigento I have just booked Villa la Lumia which is right in the park of the Valley of Temples. Since we will be doing a lot
of historic cities with hotels, I decided to do the Villa in this area. We will only be in Agrigento for 1 night
Also in Ragusa where we will be for 2 nights - one to explore the city and the other to explore south of there.
We have booked Terazza Dei Sogni, close to a parking area.
In my research and with the suggestion of another poster who is well known on this sight it was suggested I visit Noto and

Marzameni, which we are going to do.
In Siracusa you will find the island of Ortigia which is subject to the dreaded ZTL zones. We opted for the Hotel Posta at the top
of the island for the easy access in and out. Also, we still have to inform the hotel of our license # so they may inform the Carbonari.
Venice- this will be our 7th trip there and have stayed in a different place each time. For easy access to Piazza Roma for a bus to
the airport for your flight to Catania I would suggest a Hotel in that area, A few years ago we stayed at the Carlton Hotel on the
Canal which is easy walking with luggage to P. Roma.
Hope this helps a little and enjoy your planning and trip.
