Hi all, I will be staying in Nice, France from March to May. I would like to go to Florence, Cinque Terre, and Venice on three different weekends. Basically going on Friday afternoon, and back again on Sunday afternoon. I only have 3 weekends dates below. I'm hoping that there won't be raining (or at least, small chance of raining) for these periods and places. The order that I'm considering is: Florence: 13-15 April 2011 Cinque Terre: 6-8 May 2011
Venice: 20-22 May 2011 As April might have more chance rain (correct me if I'm wrong here, please), I put the Cinque Terre on May, instead of April. This is because I will try the famous hike on Cinque Terre. Also, I heard that in Venice, sometimes there is flash flood, so I put it on the end of May. Any thoughts, suggestions, or advices on those dates for those places? Is that okay, or should the order be reshuffled? Thanks a lot!
Are you traveling to these destinations by train? Does this include travel time? I think the aqua alta (flooding in Venice) is mostly a fall-winter issue.
Hi Lisa, thanks for the reply. Yeah, I meant that Aqua Alta. Good to know that it's not in the spring :) As for the transportation, for Cinque Terre and Venice will be by trains, and Florence will be by Eurolines bus. So yes, the dates are inclusive of transportation.
Hi everyone, any suggestions about this? :) Thanks!
Stewart, Just curious, why are you travelling by Bus rather than train from Nice to Florence?
My only comment Stewart is that you will have precious little time in Venice. It is 11 hours or more from Nice to Venice by train. Why not fly? In fact, perhaps you should look into flying for all of these trips. You can fly into Pisa or Genoa to see the CT.
Hi all, thanks for the replies. Basically, I'm trying to cut the budget as much as possible. I'm looking for round trip tickets under EUR 100. Ken, the Eurolines bus for Nice-Florence round trip is only EUR 45. Eventhough the depart is Saturday at 4am and arrive at 10am. The return is Sunday 6pm and arrive at 12midnight. If I'm not mistaken, I check the train ticket costs more than EUR 120. Laurel, for the reason I mentioned above, I don't choose to fly. Flying direct or indirect (and continue with train) will cost more than EUR 150. So, for me, I guess it's okay for me to spend 10 hours for the train journey and to just spend 1 full day, or maybe 1 and a half day in those destinations. Any suggestions are really appreciated. Thanks!
