3 prong vs 2 prong power adapters

When I last traveled to Italy 9 years ago I used a 2 prong power adapter. We are planning a trip in September and I see that many of the adapters for Italy are now 3 prong adapters. If I purchase the new 3 prong adapter will I be able to use that everywhere or are there buildings that still only use 2 prong?

Thanks

phyl,

The answer will depend to some extent on what you plan on connecting to the Plug Adapter. With devices such as smartphone chargers that only have two pins (hot & neutral), you can use either two-pin or three-pin plug adapters. These devices don't have or need a ground pin. I normally travel with a couple of two pin Adapters and at least one three-pin Adapter (my Netbook requires a ground connection).

This photo will provide an idea of one type of power bar that you might find in Italy. This one will accommodate either the Italian three-pin plugs (visible on the side) as well as the larger round plugs with grounding ears used in France and other countries.
