3 nights on arrival - Rome or Orvieto?

We are looking for a new spot where we can spend our first three night on arrival. We like to have a couple of days to veg before hubby's parents arrive.

We've been to Rome several times but think it might be fun to stay in the Piazza Navona area with two days to just be there.

We've also been to Orvieto, but stayed outside the town. We are thinking about the Hotel Duomo in Orvieto.

Which would you do?

I agree, it's a tough choice. If I was personally going, I'd stay in Rome.

But you said "We like to have a couple of days to veg before hubby's parents arrive."

To me, veg = Orvieto.

Sally,

A few options you could consider would be to either stay in a different part of Rome, or stay in Orvieto. Both are good choices.

You might have a look at the Trastevere area, as it's great! Check the website for Casa san Giuseppe for a good Hotel in that part of the city.

I can't comment on Hotel Duomo in Orvieto, as I stay at Hotel Corso.

Happy travels!

Hi Sally. I'd opt for Rome because there's more to do there & I love Piazza Navona so I would love to hang out there! If you haven't been to Tivoli or Ostia Antica, perhaps you could stay in Rome & take a day-trip one of the days that you'll be there. I can recommend a great apartment in the Piazza Navona area if you're interested in an apartment.

I would veg out in Orvieto with a bottle of Orvieto Classico. This small, quaint hilltown is truly a delight. The Hotel Duomo looks great. We stayed at Hotel Valentino. Have fun!

i would opt for Roma because there is more to do even if you want to to lay back. Orvieto after 9 p.m. is closed. I stayed at the Hotel Corso for 3 nights and was happy with the place. Roma has different neighborhoods you can wander through while Orvieto is so small.

Either place, however, is nice. When we are in the Roma area we generally stay at a b&b 1 hour south from the city in a small town called Ariccia. We have stayed at this b&b for the last 3 years and are now friends with the owner and her family. It is close to Castelgandolfo, Nemi, and Genzano di Roma. The area is really nice. We would have a car, but there is public transportation to Roma. We usually drive to the metro station at Arco Trevertino and take the train to Roma.

Buon viaggio,
