We have 3 nights booked in Ravenna between 3 nights in Milan and 5 nights in Rome. Is that too much time for Lake Como? We tend to enjoy cultural activities most, but we do love walking, gardens, and natural beauty. Wondering if we should add 1 day to Rome, which is our favorite city, or if we will have enough to do in Varenna. Thanks for any thoughts you may have. ~Jerry
3 nights in Varenna is perfect to me, but I would reconsider the 3 nights in Milan and bring it down to 2. Milan is an interesting city, but a day and a half is enough to get a very good overview. That way, you could add a day in Rome!
If you do not want to shift your bookings too much, you can leave Milan early after your third night there and basically have a full day in the Lake Como area, in which case it would be OK to shorten Varenna to 2 nights.
We have spent up to two weeks in Bellagio and have been there four times. It is larger than Varenna but three days in Varenna is barely enough.
Take ferries to explore Lake Como and its interesting towns.
I agree with taking a day from Milan. Have you booked your tickets for “ The Last Supper” yet?
Thank you, @balso and @suki. Thanks for the Lake Como affirmation. On the middle day of 3 we have booked in the morning the Best of Milan + Last Supper tour and in the evening an opera at La Scala. On one of the other days, we were considering a trip to Bergamo by train. Not sure about the other day in Milan. Thoughts? Delete Bergamo and add to Rome?
Bergamo is certainly a nice day trip from Milan.
There's tons to see in Rome, of course, so it's probably a matter of weighing your preference for atmospheric wandering vs. heavy-duty sightseeing. Since you know Rome very well, you should have a good sense of the trade-offs.
3 nights in Varenna

Have you booked the hotel in the city you intend?
Hi, yes, we do have reservations but I checked and we can adjust them.
