3 nights each in Orvieto and Perugia

Itinerary will be get into Rome in the morning and go straight to Orvieto. Will be in Orvieto for 3 nights and then will go to Perugia and base out of there for 3 nights before finishing out the final 6 nights of the trip in Rome

Orvieto: main historic attractions, wine tasting, and civita di bagnoregio

Perugia: Assisi day trip and trasimeno lake day trip

We want to have ample time to do a good amount of stuff while also leaving time for exploring/relaxing and enjoying being there. We figured if we wanted more time there we could prob day trip from Rome back out to one of those for one of our Rome days

Does this sound reasonable or would you recommend altering those dates a bit? This would be at the end of September

To me, it looks like with your day trips, you won't have time left to visit the cities themselves. Three nights gets you probably 2.5 days. Assissi and Civita take a full day. I can't speak to trasimeno.

We visited Orvieto and Assisi on our most recent trip to Italy. LOVED both, and Civita as well.

We did a Road Scholar tour of Tuscany and Umbria that included four nights in Spoleto. We visited Gubbio, Perugia, Assisi and Orvieto as well.

Not sure you need 3 days in Orvieto, our tour covered quite a lot of the city in about four hours.
Assisi was awesome, probably the best place in Umbria. Perugia was great, but we also liked Spoleto and Gubbio.

There's quite a lot to see in Orvieto. I don't think 3 nights will be too long at all, given your plans.
