My friends and I plan to travel from Prague to Trieste on Sept 11, 2014, take a day trip from Trieste to Venice on Sept 12, and on Sept 13 we hoped to have a day visit to Lake Bled by way of the Skocjan Cave. We will be traveling from Trieste to Budapest September 14. We are having difficulty scheduling affordable advance transportation to Skocjan/Lake Bled, and so we are considering canceling our visit to Trieste altogether.
If we go to Trieste will we be able to find affordable transportation to Lake Bled? Is it worth going out of our way to visit Trieste? We would greatly appreciate any input!
There is no train crossing the border at Trieste, only buses, so I would not choose it as a convenient home base. DRD runs a direct bus from Venezia Mestre train station to Ljubljana. Arriva is one bus company that serves Trieste. You could also check shuttle options at www.goopti.com.
Travel from Prague to Trieste by train or train and bus takes 14 hours. How to Look Up Train Schedules Online gives you the DB train schedule link and tips for using it. Some schedules are only published through June 14, at this time. Villach (Austria) is a frequent connection point to/from this part of Italy, rather than Trieste.
