3 Days in Rome - Vatican by day, night or both? Foodie question?

Hi we will be in Rome for a long weekend (Arrive 1700 Thursday 25 October, depart 1950 Monday 29 October) and staying by the Spanish Steps.....should we do the daytime Vatican Tour with private guide, or the night time Tour , or both daytime and nighttime on Friday 26 October? Someone suggested doing daytime tour at 3pm/4pm to visit the places nighttime tour doesn't go, then head to the nighttime tour afterwards....wondering how crowded it will be to get in late afternoon on a Friday in October.

Do you need a tour guide for the evening tour?

Also are any farmers markets or marketplaces open in Rome on Sunday?

And if you have any off the beaten path suggestions for Rome please let us know - doing the Coliseum at night, may do a catacomb tour - we are open to local, unique, different things to see and do.

It isn't unique or different but you might want to consider a walking food tour through Eating Italy.

We were in Rome in mid-June and hired a private guide for the Vatican Tour. The Vatican musuem is a zoo and the guide not only brought the art and history to life, but navigated us masterfully through the crowds.

Rome is fairly quiet on Sunday for non-tourist shops, but here is a list of the flea markets on Sunday: http://www.inromenow.com/site%20templates/ShopFleaMarkets.html. I have not been to any of them, but something to investigate.

Also, a food tour on your trip would be fun. We took the Eating Italy Trastevere tour on a Saturday, great food in small local shops and restaurants. We ate a pork dish and drank wine in a restaurant’s wine cellar that is older than the Colosseum, had the best Suppli in the city, and amazing Porchetta. Here is the link to their site with all their tours, including one on Sunday: https://www.eatingeurope.com/rome-food-tours/.

Have a great time,
Sandy
