We're 2 couples spending a week in Croatia in early Oct this year. We'll be ending our tour (lots of time on/in the water, city tours, national parks) in Dubrovnik & would like to spend a few days somewhere in Italy before heading home. We're very active, love good food & local culture. Having never been to Italy we don't have a clue. Not really big on museums. Any suggestions would be so appreciated.
Do you fly home out of Italy? Might help us recommend geographic convenient spots.
Would you fly to this Italy location? For a first time visit, I'd recommend Florence, Rome or Venice. All amazing, all have great food.
We'll fly home from wherever we stay in Italy.
For a first taste of Italy and some place near Dubrovnik, I would recommend Rome. That short amount of time will just give you a taste of whichever city you fly home since you should be at the airport city the night before you leave.
If you fly home from Venice, it’s usually not as convenient because the airport is on the mainland, and flights are usually early morning. It’s easier to fly into Venice…for a future trip.
I'd take the quick flight to Bari; see Bari and Matera and fly home from Bari.
I agree with Jean, if you’ve never been to Italy I would go to Rome. With only 3 days, you will have more time to explore with easy access to a major airport.
